Made and mended
on Church Street.

A family jeweller in the heart of Oswestry, under the landmark street clock that has hung here since 1927. Annette Broderick and her son Adam, a goldsmith of over ten years, design and make jewellery to commission and repair it at the bench, where you can see it happen.

THE WORKSHOP · BEHIND THE COUNTER

The jewellery is made here, not sent away.

The work we are proudest of happens at the bench behind the counter. Adam has more than ten years setting stones, sizing rings and bringing tired pieces back to life. Most jewellers in a market town post this work off to a workshop the customer never sees. Here you can hand a ring across the counter and have it put right in the same building.

“Walked in after bending a gold band at work. Repaired within minutes, great service.” Alastair Scott, Google review

WHAT WE DO

Four trades under one roof at number eleven.

At the bench

Bespoke design

Bring in a picture, an heirloom you never wear, or just an idea, and Adam designs and makes the piece here on Church Street. Over ten years at the bench, working from your stones and your budget. Most goldsmiths in a market town send this away. We do not.

In-house

Repairs and alterations

Broken chains, ring resizing, clasps, claw and shank work, and the more involved jobs other shops turn down. A no-obligation estimate before any work starts, and a sentimental piece never has to leave the building to be put right.

Service department

Watch service and repair

A new battery, strap, glass or winder, or a full service, for most brands. Our work carries a twelve-month guarantee. We are a stockist for Tissot, Citizen and Accurist, so we know the movements we are asked to look after.

The cabinet

Rings, gifts and brands

Diamond rings, earrings, bracelets and necklets, and gifts for engagements, weddings, christenings and anniversaries. Welsh gold from Clogau, alongside Jools and D for Diamond, chosen for a counter you can actually talk across.

OUR STORY · SINCE 1927 ON THIS STREET

A goldsmith has stood under this clock for the best part of a century.

The clock above the door has hung over Church Street since 1927, from the days the shop traded as Northern Goldsmiths, a name that began in Newcastle upon Tyne. When Annette Broderick and her son Adam took the shop on in 2011, they kept the staff, refit the showroom around its original curved-glass cabinets, and had the old clock restored. Its dial now reads Oswestry Goldsmiths.

The cabinets and curved glass came from the first Northern Goldsmiths in Newcastle, and the street clock has a sister still keeping time in that city. Ninety years on, it is a landmark you set your watch by in the centre of town.

THE THING WE GET ASKED FOR MOST

Putting right the piece you could not part with.

Most of what crosses the bench is sentimental rather than spare. A wedding band worn thin, an inherited ring two sizes too small, a chain snapped on a night out, a stone come loose. The job is to keep what matters, and to do it where you can see it done.

  • Pave and grain setting by hand. Small stones held in a field of beaded metal, set one at a time, not pushed through a machine.
  • Resizing and shank work in-house. A ring sized up or down, a worn shank rebuilt, so a piece never leaves the building it came into.
  • An estimate before anything is touched. We look at the work, tell you what it needs and what it costs, and only start once you say so.
START SOMETHING

Tell us what you have in mind.

A short note to start the conversation, no obligation. The real work happens at the counter once we can see the piece in person. Or just phone 01691 652072 and ask for Adam.

  • We reply by email, usually within a day or two.
  • Bring the piece, the stones, or a picture to the counter.
  • We give a no-obligation estimate before any work begins.

Send an enquiry

A photo of the piece helps. You can email one to info@oswestrygoldsmiths.co.uk after sending.

FIVE WE GET MOST

Quick answers, then bring it in.

Can you repair my ring or chain while I wait?

Often, yes. A lot of everyday work, a snapped chain, a bent band, a battery, is done here at the bench in minutes rather than sent away for weeks. One customer walked in after bending a gold band at work and had it repaired within minutes. For bigger jobs we give a no-obligation estimate first and tell you honestly how long it will take.

Do you make jewellery to order?

Yes. Adam has over ten years at the bench and designs and makes pieces to commission, working from your stones, a photo, or just an idea. It is the part of the shop we are proudest of. Come in to 11 Church Street and we will talk through metal, stones and budget before anything is agreed.

Can you remodel an old piece I never wear?

That is some of our favourite work. An inherited ring two sizes too small, a brooch nobody wears, a good stone sitting in a drawer. Bring it in and we will talk about what it could become, then make it here rather than posting it off to a workshop you never see.

Do you repair watches, and which brands?

Yes, in our service department: batteries, straps, glass, winders and full services, for most brands, all with a twelve-month guarantee. We are a stockist for Tissot, Citizen and Accurist, so those movements are familiar ground.

Where are you and is there parking nearby?
